Trovelore Emperor Mopane Moth Brooch Pin – A Regal Ode to Earth’s Quiet Monarch

PREORDER 8/26

“The Mopane moth wears its crown in silence—here, stitched into eternity with threads of gold and twilight.”

The Emperor Mopane Moth Brooch Pin (7.8cm/3” wingspan) is a majestic tribute to one of Africa’s most iconic lepidopterans, its striking wing patterns and imposing size captured in cotton, felt, and glimmering thread. Handcrafted by Indian artisans, this wearable heirloom immortalizes the moth’s fleeting beauty, blending ethical craftsmanship with the untamed spirit of the savannah.

Artisan Alchemy:

  • Regal Design: Cotton wings adorned with metallic threads, sequins mimicking the moth’s iridescent scales
  • Dimensional Grandeur: Felt body, seed-beaded antennae, and intricate wing veining
  • Convertible Majesty: Add a bail adapter (sold separately) to wear as a pendant
  • Ethical Creation: Small-batch production supporting traditional Indian zardozi embroidery
  • Heirloom Craft: 18-22 hours of meticulous handwork per piece

Why This Moth Commands Attention:

  • Symbol of Metamorphosis: Embodies resilience, transformation, and nature’s cyclical wisdom
  • African Icon: Honors the Mopane moth’s ecological role in southern Africa’s ecosystems
  • Museum-Worthy Artistry: A collectible piece for nature archivists and textile connoisseurs
  • Bold Statement: Dramatic 3” wingspan elevates jackets, scarves, or displayed as framed art

Styling Your Winged Sovereign:

  1. Bohemian Explorer: Pin to safari jackets or woven kaftans
  2. Urban Edge: Contrast against leather blazers or minimalist totes
  3. Evening Drama: Suspend as a pendant over sleek black silk
  4. Home Sanctuary: Display in shadowboxes beside dried botanicals

The Handmade Imperative

Each moth bears regal imperfections:

  • Unique sequin “scale” patterns
  • Slight asymmetry in wing veining
  • Organic color shifts in earthy ochres and bronzes
These quirks are the artisans’ signatures—proof of human hands honoring wild beauty.

Limited Edition Flight

Crafted in small batches to honor slow fashion. Once these moths ascend, their mirror image may never return.

From the Founders’ Vision:

“Our Emperor Mopane Moth carries the heat of African sunsets and the patience of cocoons. It’s for those who wear their curiosity boldly and their values like armor.”
– Dhruti & Seema, Trovelore Co-Founders

Includes:

  • Sturdy metal pin with felt backing
  • Embossed keepsake box for heirloom gifting
  • Story card exploring the moth’s ecological significance

Care Instructions:

  • Store flat to preserve winged splendor
  • Avoid moisture and direct sunlight

Size: 1.6” x 3” (4cm x 7.8cm) – a wearable testament to nature’s quiet royalty

Final Note:
This brooch is not mere adornment, it’s a manifesto. To walk gently yet command space. To honor life’s transformations. To carry the wild, stitched into permanence.

Wear as a pendant or necklace with optional bail adapter sold separately.

FAQs

What is the Emperor Mopane Moth?
Imbrasia belina is a large silk moth native to the mopane woodlands of southern and eastern Africa. It is one of the most visually dramatic moths on the continent, known for its bold eyespot markings and impressive wingspan. Its caterpillar, the mopane worm, is a culturally significant and widely consumed food source across Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa, making this moth one of the most ecologically and culturally important Lepidoptera in Africa.

How large is this brooch?
The Emperor Mopane Moth Brooch Pin measures 1.6" wide by 3" tall (4 cm x 7.8 cm), one of the larger pieces in the Trovelore collection and substantial enough to wear as a true statement piece on a lapel or hat.

What materials are used?
The brooch is constructed on a cotton and felt base with hand-laid sequins, seed beads, and hand embroidery throughout. The pin back is metal. Every element is applied by hand by artisan craftspeople in India.

What does "slight variation between pieces" mean?
Because every Trovelore brooch is made entirely by hand in small batches, no two pieces are exactly identical. Minor differences in embroidery placement, bead tone, size, and shape are a natural and celebrated result of the handmade process. These variations are not defects, they are what make each piece uniquely yours.
