The Happy Little Mother Respectfully Collection Has Landed

If you read my post back in August, you already know I have been a little obsessed with Happy Little Mother. (If you missed it, [catch up on the brand story and the Sorry Mom patch here.]) So when Aspen and her team started teasing the Happy Little Mother Respectfully collection, I knew we had to have it in the shop.

It launched yesterday, and I can say with total confidence: this is the most fun drop we have had all fall.

What Is Respectfully?

Respectfully is Happy Little Mother’s take on the two kinds of mothers we all carry around: the ones who came before us, and the ones we are becoming.

Motherhood has a way of getting very serious. Some of it deserves that. But a lot of it is hilarious, a little unhinged, and occasionally inappropriate, and if we are being honest, those are the parts we talk about the most.

So the collection leans all the way in. Five shirts. Five plaids. A suspicious amount of four-leaf clovers. Patches with sayings that might make your grandmother clutch her pearls, then quietly ask where you got it. A little grandma, a little rebellion, and a whole lot of mother.

The Five Respectfully Plaid Shirts

Every shirt in the collection is 100% distressed cotton, so it feels broken in the first time you put it on. The Respectfully Plaid Trousers

Respectfully, matching is overrated. The trousers are where the whole collection comes together, pieced from all five plaids with four-leaf clovers screen printed down each leg and a distressed finish that makes them look like you have loved them for years.

They are 100% cotton with no stretch, a relaxed low-rise fit, button and zip closure, belt loops, and back pockets. $105

Wear them with any shirt in the collection for a full plaid-on-plaid set, or keep the top simple and let the trousers do all the talking.

How I Am Styling the Happy Little Mother Respectfully Shirts

My favorite way to wear these so far? With jorts. I have been pairing my Donkey Plaid Shirt with long, relaxed denim jorts, tall harness boots, and the Tova Turquoise Multi Cross Necklace, and I cannot stop reaching for it.

It works because the shirt is boxy and slightly cropped, so the yellow fringe hits right at the waistband of a longer jort instead of swallowing it. The faded denim lets the plaid and patches be the star, the tall boots fill in the space between hem and knee so it reads polished instead of summery, and the turquoise pulls the whole thing a little western. Throw a slouchy brown leather tote on your shoulder and you are done.
